A councilor of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) from the Serampur Municipality was arrested following an alleged attack on police personnel during a local disturbance on Friday evening, officials said. According to police sources, the incident took place during an operation conducted to control a tense situation in the area. The councilor, along with a group of supporters, allegedly obstructed police officers while they were carrying out their duties. Authorities claimed that some officers were verbally abused and physically attacked during the confrontation.
Following the incident, a case was registered under multiple sections related to assault on public servants, obstruction of government duty, and unlawful assembly. The accused councilor was later taken into custody for questioning. Senior police officials stated that law and order in the area remains under control and additional personnel have been deployed to prevent further unrest. Meanwhile, local political leaders reacted strongly to the arrest, with party members demanding a fair investigation into the matter.
