The Railway Ministry has approved the inclusion of the historic Serampore railway station in Hooghly under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station’ project. The decision has been taken with a view to developing the station as an iconic amenity centre in the region, according to railway sources. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had announced the redevelopment of the station during his recent visit to Serampore. Within a week of his announcement, the Railway Ministry has approved the inclusion of Serampore station under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station’ project.
According to railway sources, the development plan for Serampore station will be prepared in such a way that it reflects the historical and cultural identity of the city. The Union Railway Minister had said that the design of the station will reflect the local heritage and architecture, so that the rich cultural history of Serampore is revealed.
