Danish Government House

The Danish Government House in Serampore is one of the most significant colonial-era landmarks in West Bengal, reflecting the town’s unique Indo-Danish heritage. Built in the mid-18th century (around 1755–1770s), it served as the official residence of the Danish governor and the administrative headquarters of the Danish colony of Serampore (then known as Frederiksnagore). This historic structure was the centre of political and administrative power during Danish rule, functioning as both a government office and the residence of top officials. From here, the Danes controlled trade, governance, and daily administration in the region, making it the heart of their operations in India.
