Shri Shri Radhaballav Jeeu Temple
The Shri Shri Radhaballav Jeeu Temple stands as one of the most revered and historically significant temples in Serampur. Dedicated to Lord Krishna in the form of Radhaballav (the beloved of Radha), this sacred shrine reflects centuries of devotion, architectural beauty, and spiritual heritage. The origins of the temple date back to the 16th century, when a devout scholar, Rudraram Pandit, established the worship of the deity after embracing Vaishnavism. The original structure, however, was later abandoned due to the shifting course of the Bhagirathi River.
In 1764, the present temple was rebuilt by the prominent zamindar Nayan Chand Mallick of Kolkata, ensuring the continuation of worship and preservation of the sacred site. Later, his son Nimai Charan Mallick arranged for the daily rituals (nitya seva) of the deities. Today, the temple is regarded as over 400 years old, making it a vital part of Serampur’s cultural and religious history.
