Serampore Girl’s College
Serampore is a town of West Bengal which has a great historical importance as It is a pre-colonial city on bank of the Hooghly River. During 1755-1845 , Denmark ruled over this town. The college is situated in this town where girls from all over the Hooghly district take admission due to its location advantage. Serampore Girls’ College, a distinguished women’s college in the field of Higher Education for girls in Hooghly district of West Bengal, was established in an ancient building of Danish Period on 6th June in the year 1981 by a group of visionaries who stood for the propagation of female education in the sub-division and ultimately acted to fulfil the long standing demand of the people of serampore sub-division for a college exclusive for girls.
The noted educationist and the then President of West Bengal Higher Secondary Council late Smt. Anila Devi inaugurated the college. Affiliated to the University of Calcutta, this govt.-aided college was originally started with only 47 of students on its roll and with only seven general subjects in humanities group – Bengali, Sanskrit, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Education__ as Optional and Pass Papers in B.A. General Programme that were later extended to Honours level.
